Jackson County, including Brooklyn, Clark Lake, Cement City, Columbia, Concord, Grass Lake, Hanover, Horton, Jackson, Leslie, Michigan Center, Munith, Napoleon, Norveil, Parma, Pleasant Lake, Pulaski, Rives Junction, Spring Arbor, Springport, Tompkins Center, and Vandercook Lake. We also service Out-of-County, including, but not limited to Albion, Ann Arbor, Hillsdale, and Lansing using our out of County rates. Please call if your area is not listed for a quote.

Sec. 2559. (1) Except as provided in subsection (2), the following schedule applies as fees for process served out of the circuit court, the probate court, the district court, or any municipal court by any person authorized pursuant to this act or supreme court rule to serve process:

(a) For personal service of a summons and complaint in a civil action, along with supporting documents, for each defendant, $21.00 plus mileage.

(b) For personal service of an affidavit of account and statement, for each defendant, $21.00 plus mileage.

(c) For a summons and affidavit in garnishment, each garnishee defendant, $18.00 plus mileage.

(d) For seizure and delivery of goods in a case of claim and delivery, $35.00 plus mileage, plus the actual and reasonable expense of taking, keeping and delivering the goods.

(e) For receiving and filing a bond from or on behalf of a defendant in a case of claim and delivery, $4.00.

(f) For an order to show cause, $21.00 plus mileage.
(g) For a subpoena on discovery, $21.00 plus mileage.
(h) For a writ, affidavit, and bond in a case of attachment, $21.00 plus mileage.

(i) For the seizure of property in a case of attachment, $35.00 plus mileage, plus the actual and reasonable expense for taking and keeping the property.

(j) For levy under a writ of execution, $35.00 plus mileage, plus the actual and reasonable expense for taking, keeping and sale, plus, if the judgment is satisfied prior to sale, 7% of the first $5,000.00 in receipts and 3% of receipts exceeding the first $5,000.00

(k) For sale of levy in a case of execution, 7% of the first $5,000.00 in receipts and 3% of any receipts exceeding the first $5,000.00.

(l) For each notice of sale on levy in the case of an execution or mechanics lien posted in a public place in the city or township, $21.00 plus mileage.

(m) For a writ for the restitution of premises, $35.00 plus mileage, plus the actual and reasonable expense for moving property out of the premises.

(n) For a subpoena directed to a witness, including a judgment debtor, $21.00 plus mileage.

(o) For a civil bench warrant or body execution, $35.00 plus mileage, plus $18.00 per hour for the amount of time, if any, involved in executing the warrant.

(3) Upon submitting a sworn affidavit, a person who serves process out of the circuit court, the probate court, the district court, or any municipal court is entitled to receive a $10.00 fee for each process that has an incorrect address. This fee is in addition to any any fee to which the person is entitled under subsection (1).

(4)Mileage allowed under subsection (1) shall be the same rate per mile, each way, as the rate allowed by the state civil service commission for employees in the state classified civil service and shall be computed by the shortest distance from the place of service to the following location:

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you service areas outside of Jackson County?
A: Yes, we will serve Calhoun, Ingham, and Washtenaw Counties on a limited basis.

Q: Should I go with the Routine, Rush, or Service?
A: Generally, If you need your service completed within 2 days we recommend Rush service.
All other services will be considered Routine, and can sometimes take 5 days, or more to complete. (Depending on the difficulty of service, and the Process Server’s overall workload for that week.)

Q: How many attempts do you make?

A: Unlimited attempts until served. Or, until we determine we have an incorrect address.
(Defendant moved, address typo, etc.)

Q: What happens if I provide you with a wrong, or incorrect service address?
A: We will attempt whatever address you give us, if it is incorrect, we will conduct a postal check to attempt to find the correct address at no charge. According to Michigan Statute, you will be billed $10.00 for the bad address.

Q: Can your Investigator find an address for my Defendant, or Witness?
A: Our Investigator is very good. We cannot promise results every time, but every attempt will
be made to locate your Defendant, or Witness.

Q: How do you notify me when the service is complete?
A: Normally, unless other wise specified, we will file the “Proof of Service” with the issuing court, and mail a copy of the “Proof of Service” back to you with our invoice for service. We will notify you via phone when service is complete upon request.

Q: Do I need a “Notarized” Proof of Service/Affidavit?
A: All papers served by General Process servers are Notarized at no charge to you.

Q: Can I come to your office, and drop-off my paperwork?
A: Yes, we are located at 400 S. Jackson St., Suite 4, Jackson, MI 49201 We are located right across from the 12th District Court. Office hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:00pm. If the office is closed, we have a secure mailbox available for you to drop your papers in.

Q: Could you bill me, or my company after the service is complete?
A: Yes, we will send you a copy of the “Proof of Service” along with you invoice at the
completion of service.

Q: Can I give you my credit card payment information over the phone?
A: No, we are not equipped to accept credit card payments.
